Dr Michael Maguire founded Sports & Orthopaedic Specialists (SOS) on the Gold Coast, a multidisciplinary clinic focused on sports injuries, workplace injuries, and upper limb orthopaedics. With a Master of Sports Medicine and over 20 years of surgical experience, Dr Maguire blends sports performance science with precision surgery to help patients recover faster and return to peak function.

Dr Maguire specialises in treating active individuals—from professional athletes to weekend warriors—with upper limb injuries (rotator cuff tears, tennis/golfer’s elbow, shoulder instability, nerve entrapments, and traumatic injuries) and lower limb injuries (knee meniscal tears, cartilage damage, and osteoarthritis). He specialises in ultrasound-guided, minimally invasive procedures, offering advanced treatment options that minimise disruption to training and work.

At SOS, Dr Maguire works alongside physiotherapists and rehabilitation experts to deliver comprehensive, sport-informed orthopaedic care. He also collaborates with WorkCover, insurers, and GPs to provide clear treatment pathways and fast-track recovery for injured workers and athletes alike.

Dr Bin Yi

Dr Bin Yi is an experienced medical practitioner with over 35 years of clinical experience, including more than 20 years in orthopaedic surgery and musculoskeletal medicine across Australia and China. He brings extensive expertise in orthopaedic trauma, fracture management, sports and soft tissue injuries, and musculoskeletal conditions, combining a strong surgical background with a patient-centred approach to diagnosis and treatment.

Dr Yi graduated from Peking University Health Science Centre in 1988 and subsequently undertook advanced orthopaedic training at Peking University People’s Hospital, where he was appointed Associate Professor and Orthopaedic Surgeon. He later served as Director of Orthopaedics at Altay Prefecture Hospital, leading the department and managing complex trauma and reconstructive orthopaedic procedures.

Since relocating to Australia, Dr Yi has gained extensive clinical experience at Frankston Hospital, The Tweed Hospital, and John Flynn Private Hospital, working in orthopaedic surgery, emergency medicine, fracture management, and surgical assisting. He has also practised in general medicine for more than a decade and currently works at Chevron After Hours Medical Services on the Gold Coast.

Dr Yi has a strong academic background, with peer-reviewed orthopaedic publications and contributions to the education and supervision of medical students, junior doctors, and orthopaedic trainees. His clinical interests include upper limb conditions, peripheral nerve disorders, musculoskeletal ultrasound, image-guided interventions, and minimally invasive surgical techniques.

At Maguire Upper Limb, the Carpal Tunnel Clinic, and the Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre, Dr Yi brings his extensive orthopaedic and musculoskeletal experience to a multidisciplinary team focused on innovative, evidence-based care. Working alongside Dr Michael Maguire, he is further developing his expertise in ultrasound-guided procedures, WALANT techniques, and ultra-minimally invasive surgery, with an emphasis on accurate diagnosis, personalised treatment, and helping patients return to normal activities as efficiently as possible.
